"Scream For Ice Cream"

     During my childhood, I remember my father often quoted this particular slogan that he heard on the radio during his youth: "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream at People's Ice Cream Parlor".  From time to time, I still hear this particular line when I am either watching TV or on the radio which I find it odd. There was a time when I was eating ice cream very religiously to the point that I have been inspired to make a sign with this slogan that surrounds that picture of ice cream on a cone.

     This sign is a combination of a wood relief and filigree that is hung by a rope from the top.  Then, I painted it in patriotic colors that are basically found in our American flag which also resembles the Fourth of July, one of my most favorite holidays.  Here in the Southeastern part of the United States of America, ice cream is considered as a treat mainly during warmer weather. However, I one of many people, especially to the who live in the North love eating it all year long.

"Cattle-lac" (Sign)

 

    Here is a sign that I enjoyed doing about a few years ago, and it is called "Cattle-lac".
It is called that name because of people who own or have owned any model of Cadillac
El Dorado convertibles and have them decorated with long bull horns on the hoods  in
addition to adding magnetic cow spots on their cars.  The scenes of these owners decorating
their Cadillac convertible in this particular style have been quite a fascination to me.  From
their decorating their Cadillacs have turned their cars into "Cattle-lacs" have really inspired me
to create this particular sign.

There were some very special times that were cherished before many of us, children, have had together before we returned to school.  Swinging on that tire swing was one of those "Memory makers".  It was a certain time for all of us to get together to play for that "very last time" as well observing the outdoors which we cannot help but noticing that the leaves are not that deep Emerald, but olive green.  Late August is a reminder that the traditional Summer season is almost over, and Indian Summer is starting to emerge right after Labor Day.

"Think Positive" (Sign)

"Think Positive"

Philippians 4:4-8

(Plaque)

"Think Positive" is a sign that encorages positive thinking with a Bible verse that validates the importance of thinking positive.  This particular sign was an inspiration of my mother due to her "Advice To The Bride" at one of  my bridal showers.  It was about three years ago when I both copied the letters and words in the style of that text book cursive writing while I was making this sign.

* "Philippians 4:4-8" - Bible verse references which are some of my most favorite Bible verses

                                because they are so uplifting  The Bible verses go like this:
                                V. 4 - "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again, I say, Rejoice.
                                V. 5 - " Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand."
                                V. 6 - "Be careful for nothing: but in every thing by prayer and supplication
                                           with thanksgiving let your requests be known unto God."
                                 V. 7 - "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep
                                           your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
                                 V. 8 - "Finally, bretheren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things
                                            are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
                                            whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;
                                            if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Back Creek Church Barn

"Back Creek Church Barn"

I love painting pictures of barns - especially when they give me that certain Americana feeling.  There are a majority of times when I pass this barn as I commute to work every morning.  On some mornings, I can see
such a beautiful and picturesque view while I am waiting at the light.  It took some time before I started painting this piece due to my study of this barn scene along with that silo with the cross on it.  What even makes this barn and its silo so special is that it actually belongs to Back Creek Presbyterian Church where it is located between the northeast part of Charlotte and Harrisburg  in North Carolina.  From what I have been told was that this particular barn was once owned by a godly farmer who gave his barn to the church. 

As far as the materials that it took to paint the picture of this barn is that I used a quite different type of paper which is the backing of a grasscloth wall paper.  It is not really unusual that I use unusual types of mediums because I want to add more feeling to that painting.  However, this type of painting added both warmth as well a certain feeling of nostalgia especially when it comes for me to paint a subject matter such as this and other barns.

"Dear Santa..." Plaque

"Dear Santa,...  I can explain"

(Carved Plaque)

Here is a letter that I could always write to Santa Claus every year because there is always something about me that I love to "cut up" such as "being a clown".  When I was a child, one of the only methods that my family used on me was by them telling me that "If I am good, Santa Claus will bring me toys, and if I am bad, I will get a bag of switches."   I used to be more of that rambunctious child who always needed to be corrected.  Basically, I really wanted to be "good", but there were at times when I really tested people's nerves - especially with my family.  

Praise The Lord, my family still love me even when I am now an adult and that I do not need to worry about "being good for Santa Claus".  

It was a few years ago when I saw a co-worker wore a t-shirt that said, "Dear Santa,...  I can explain".  I told her that I can very well understand that feeling along with chuckling about it...   It were those words that really inspired me to make this particular plaque.

"Welcome To Our Tag-Along"

This is a wooden folk sign that I am selling on my Etsy shop.  There was a time that I was drawing as well dooding out ideas about RVs and signs relating to them.  On one late Sunday afternoon, I have gotten this idea through a man shortly after I was telling him about several ideas relating to this subject matter. He was drew out an image of a sign that he did for his own family's RV and then gave it to me for an idea.  However, I did do some deviations from what he game me while I was creating this sign.

"Summertime Reflections"

Can you tell which side is the right side?  The reason why I ask is that this painting challenge is known as the "Upside-Down Challenge" because it was designed to trick the eye.  It has been a proven science with the eyes is that what we see things "right-side up", the other side of ths lenses which are inside of our eyes see "upside-down".

So far, this is one probably the most challenging challenge that I ever did because of  doing it in a mirrored image.  First of all, I started painting the likeness of this picture similar to what I originally saw what  I saw  how the photo was done.  Then I drew out the watermelon and stainless steel bowl.  This was one picture that I painted and repainted over and over again in so many areas.  However, I stuck to this challenge and refused to painting this picturel  There, I did it, and I can say that I am really proud of myself to stick to this 

challenge even when I was sensing that I was struggling with it.  

One thing for sure, I can say that I enjoyed doing this painting because it is mainly about the subject matter as well colors.  It is really has a strong feelinging of America as well the Fourth of July which I am glad that I painted it.  Another thing that I enjoyed about painting this picture is about watermelons which I love to both paint about as well eat.
