"MCA Art & Graphic Studio" 

The name "MCA Art & Graphic Studio" for my freelance art business was originally birthed on a school-related field trip due to the rules for each one of us drafting and design students to make a name for either a company where anyone of us may have worked or a made-up name.  Since I already had experience as a freelance artist for an advertising agency and with my expertise of house portraits for various clients, the light bulb finally clicked. I wanted to call it by either my name or initials, plus adding an art and graphic related association.    Voila! Good idea at a great time.

I designed and painted onto an eighth of an inch thin plywood board advertising my freelance art and graphic studio.  I made the initials to be the largest so it can take at least fifty per-cent of the sign.  The large periods that are added between my initals are used for distinction.  My full name is located beneath the initials as one-eighth of that sign.  My other talents that are listed take three-eighth of this sign which are located at the bottom.

My business name was almost immediate; however, the logo took much longer since I was seeking an exact style that reflected my personality. I feel that my business cards and logo with the sign make it stand out with an added “pop”.

Windshield Patterns

"Windshield Patterns"

There was something very special about watching the windshied wipers continuously make a pattern on the windshield in a back-and-forth motion during a rainy day.  This time was even more of a certain type of coincidence as well special time because it was at least a month after John F. Kennedy's assassination, and I sence a certain type of heaviness that was still lingering around America then.  Oddly enough, I was at the age of four at that particular time and could not totally process all of the political events that were really swirling around our country at that time. For a very long time, I have referred to rain as God's tears - especially when it was at least a month since that presidential assassination.  Yes, that was a very tragic time in America, however; we as Americans grieved for a while and then we began to carry on with our lives...  

Now, it was a little over a month after that tragic event, but many people, like my family and I tended to carry on - especially as we as a family were traveling from Tuscaloosa to both Prattville and then on to Montgomery to spend the Christmas holidays with our relatives.  My father was the one who drove the then-new station wagon, my mother was sitting by the window with a big overcoat over both her legs and lap, I was sitting between both parents, all of my three siblings were sitting in the back seat, and last but not least, our pieces of luggage were in the back deck.

With all of those events that were swirling across America, people as well my family and me were getting into the holiday traveling season, I as a child found myself so mesmerised by the repetitive patterns of the windshild wipers onto the windshield during a rainy winter day.

"Think Positive" (Sign)

Philippians 4:4-8

"Think Positive" is a sign that encorages positive thinking with a Bible verse that validates the importance of thinking positive.  This particular sign was an inspiration of my mother due to her "Advice To The Bride" at one of  my bridal showers.  It was about three years ago when I both copied the letters and words in the style of that text book cursive writing while I was making this sign.

* "Philippians 4:4-8" - Bible verse references which are some of my most favorite Bible verses

                                because they are so uplifting  The Bible verses go like this:
                                V. 4 - "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again, I say, Rejoice.
                                V. 5 - " Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand."
                                V. 6 - "Be careful for nothing: but in every thing by prayer and supplication
                                           with thanksgiving let your requests be known unto God."
                                 V. 7 - "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep
                                           your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
                                 V. 8 - "Finally, bretheren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things
                                            are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
                                            whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;
                                            if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

LuKe Sha - African-American Angel Doll

"LuKe Sha"

(African-American Angel Doll) 

LuKe Sha is a story about an African-American lady who later as pictured as a true angel because she went back into a burning apartment to rescue her neighbor's crippled wife.  Although, LuKe Sha was (probably still a single mother) who reared two children alone.  One day (or night), there was a bad fire that broke out in the same unit where LuKes Sha and her children were living at that time.  First, LuKe Sha rescued both of her children and then she took a real big chance to go back into that building and rescued her neighbor's crippled wife, and then she experienced  severe burns all over her body.  However, I am 
not quite sure if she survived that fire, but she can be really looked upon as an angel because of her efforts.

My friend made this doll which her head and hands are made of clay, her dress is made of tapestry. Her wings are made of feathers, She stands at two feet tall and weighs somewhere around 3 to 6 pounds.

Back Creek Church Barn

"Back Creek Church Barn"

I love painting pictures of barns - especially when they give me that certain Americana feeling.  There are a majority of times when I pass this barn as I commute to work every morning.  On some mornings, I can see
such a beautiful and picturesque view while I am waiting at the light.  It took some time before I started painting this piece due to my study of this barn scene along with that silo with the cross on it.  What even makes this barn and its silo so special is that it actually belongs to Back Creek Presbyterian Church where it is located between the northeast part of Charlotte and Harrisburg  in North Carolina.  From what I have been told was that this particular barn was once owned by a godly farmer who gave his barn to the church. 

As far as the materials that it took to paint the picture of this barn is that I used a quite different type of paper which is the backing of a grasscloth wall paper.  It is not really unusual that I use unusual types of mediums because I want to add more feeling to that painting.  However, this type of painting added both warmth as well a certain feeling of nostalgia especially when it comes for me to paint a subject matter such as this and other barns.

"George's Angel" (from "The All About Me" painting challenge)

"George's Angel"

This painting challenge through the Daily Paintworks in "The All About Me" challenge was not one of the easiest of me to paint - especially a portait in watercolor. It was also very  time-consuming  because I wanted to get this picture "right" for George for our twenty-seventh wedding anniversary especially when it came to copying from a very classic painting of me.

This was me while wearing a wedding dress on Saturday, June 9, 1984.  That dress was the exact style of wedding dress that I really wanted to wear at my wedding.  Oddly enough, a long-time friend as well a wife of one of George's cousin offered to lend me her wedding dress.  Lo and behold, when I came by and picked up her wedding dress, I saw that dress was the same style that I dreamed about to wear.  I can really say that I talked about a real "blessing".  Yes, that dress, too, fit perfectly - no fittings of anykind which I can sing "Glory Hallelujah".

 This picture was taken shortly before I married to a very special man named George who often calls me "Angel".  While I was posing for my pre-wedding pictures, I was thinking and mesmurizing about the wedding along with thinking about all of the anticipation of walking down that aisle with my father as he was going to "give" his "baby daughter" away to George.  This is still a favorite picture of myself  of me standing near a fountain in the courtyard of the same church where I mainly grew up during my childhood, teen, and most of my college years along with the rest of my siblings.  My wedding color was dark pink which was almost like red - which could be like a deep pink Crepe Myrtle or...kinda like a "Tickle Me Elmo" shade of dark pink.  all of the bride's maids except fot the flower girl wore the same shade of dark pink long dresses   However, the groom's men, best man, ring-bearer, and not to forget, my father all wore black tuxedos with white shirts and bow ties.

That may have been a very brief moment in my life but it as well a very classic moment that makes it so special enough to be captured in a photograph, and then later into a painting.  This picture's title is the reason why I call it "George's angel" mainly because he still calls me "Angel".

"Dear Santa..." Plaque

"Dear Santa,...  I can explain"

Here is a letter that I could always write to Santa Claus every year because there is always something about me that I love to "cut up" such as "being a clown".  When I was a child, one of the only methods that my family used on me was by them telling me that "If I am good, Santa Claus will bring me toys, and if I am bad, I will get a bag of switches."   I used to be more of that rambunctious child who always needed to be corrected.  Basically, I really wanted to be "good", but there were at times when I really tested people's nerves - especially with my family.  

Praise The Lord, my family still love me even when I am now an adult and that I do not need to worry about "being good for Santa Claus".  

It was a few years ago when I saw a co-worker wore a t-shirt that said, "Dear Santa,...  I can explain".  I told her that I can very well understand that feeling along with chuckling about it...   It were those words that really inspired me to make this particular plaque.

Remembering Hershey

"Remembering Hershey"

This is a painting challenge called "Best Friend Challenge" on Daily Paintworks that was posted on Saturday, December 3, 2012.  For a while, I was thinking about several dogs that my family had over the course of years, however; I picked painting a picture of a Miniature Toy Poodle since I always wanted a poodle very badly when I was still a teenager.  I can sense my family members wonder why did I chose to do a painting on Hershey, of all dogs, that they were and still not all crazy about him.  I am writing because I liked him as well was fascinated how that dog had a certain type of  history, his strange attributes, and not to forget, my aunt and uncle's making over along with spoiling that dog.

You probably wonder why I am blogging about this particular dog in brown letters....  Well, yes, I am doing that because of the dog's name and color.  This dog was named "Hershey" by Sarah Ann, one of my cousins, because of his fur color - brown. At times, I strongly believe that this same cousin loved Hershey candy products enough to give her dog that particular name..   It was somewhere a short time since Sarah Ann, my cousin, got married Paul who was a military man.  For Heshey, it was a very sad time for him to somewhere else since there are no pets allowed in military housing.  Well, Hersyey stayed for a short period of  time Sarah Ann's parents, one of my father's oldest brother and his wife, when they agreed to keep until it was possible whether Sarah Ann and her new husband, Paul, will be able to find a way to have Hershey again.   As it turned out... another aunt and uncle wound up keeping as well claiming Hershey until his death....

If I correctly remember, this aunt, my father's sister, and uncle who wound up keeping Hershey for the next seven-and-a half years really made over him many times until Hershey died.  Hershey was soo spoiled at the point that he acted as though he thought that he was a human - even sitting down at a child-sized Ottoman like a person.  On many holidays and special occasions, my aunt took Hershey at the dog groomer and have him soo dolled up, coifed, painted paw nails, and not to forget, ribbons tied in a ponytail fashion on his ears.  
In this painting of Hershey,  I put an orange and blue background since this aunt and uncle were both "Dye-Hard" Auburn fans, "Dolled-up" likenss (during Christmas), and this dog's "human-like" behavior whcich inspired me to paint this picture.

This is a wooden folk sign that I am selling on my Etsy shop.  There was a time that I was drawing as well dooding out ideas about RVs and signs relating to them.  On one late Sunday afternoon, I have gotten this idea through a man shortly after I was telling him about several ideas relating to this subject matter. He was drew out an image of a sign that he did for his own family's RV and then gave it to me for an idea.  However, I did do some deviations from what he game me while I was creating this sign.

"Summertime Reflections"

Can you tell which side is the right side?  The reason why I ask is that this painting challenge is known as the "Upside-Down Challenge" because it was designed to trick the eye.  It has been a proven science with the eyes is that what we see things "right-side up", the other side of ths lenses which are inside of our eyes see "upside-down".

So far, this is one probably the most challenging challenge that I ever did because of  doing it in a mirrored image.  First of all, I started painting the likeness of this picture similar to what I originally saw what  I saw  how the photo was done.  Then I drew out the watermelon and stainless steel bowl.  This was one picture that I painted and repainted over and over again in so many areas.  However, I stuck to this challenge and refused to painting this picturel  There, I did it, and I can say that I am really proud of myself to stick to this 

challenge even when I was sensing that I was struggling with it.  

One thing for sure, I can say that I enjoyed doing this painting because it is mainly about the subject matter as well colors.  It is really has a strong feelinging of America as well the Fourth of July which I am glad that I painted it.  Another thing that I enjoyed about painting this picture is about watermelons which I love to both paint about as well eat.

"Doubly Red Doors"

"May I please have your attention?"  

This is an art piece that is for the "Hurricane Sandy Fundraiser" program of the the Daily Paintworks, and I am choosing Samaritan's Purse as the business whom I choose to have the money sent.  The Samaritan's Purse is a ministry that helps people in war-torn and storm-ravaged areas along with sending out  filled shoe boxes to both children and younger teenagers alike.
Most importantly, this particular ministry does repair work as well counsels and evangelize to
people.

"Doubly Red Doors"

For some odd reason, I wanted to paint a pair of red doors because I was more 

in the mood to paint something that is architecturally-related.  Although these doors look as though that they are built around the large porch of a fine Southern house, however, they also look as though they were built at a Northern  home or an apartment - especially where there is a canopy-covered walkway.   Well anyway, I had the fascination and enjoyment in painting 

them.  The main reason why I chose red for those doors is because red is known

to be a very welcoming color.   The other two reasons why I chose red is because it is a beautiful and powerful color.

Description

Simply Soaring

"Simply Soaring"


This painting is about a dragonfly that is just "simply soaring" over water lilies and pads that
are sitting over the water.   Around fourteen years ago, my husband bought a necklace with
a dragonfly pendant which he still has.  At first, I was not exactly fond of dragonflies which 
is mainly because of its name, but I saw that it is actually a beautiful type of fly that I forgot
what it actually symbolizes.  However, I have for a very long time found that there is some-
thing very special about water lilies beside my strong liking to Monet's paintings of water 
lilies.  It is that those beautiful flowers went through some slime and muck before they ever 
blossomed.  Now, that is inspirational to me because it is a comparison of how we must 
go through the "yucky stuff" before we can ever blossom from the help of the Lord, Jesus Christ.  

P. S. I redid this painting because the one on the bottom gave me a rather incomplete feeling as well
 I strongly felt as though I needed to add some extra "pop" to this painting.  This is what I call my
 "Painting Revival" which is to add more "Uumph" & "Pop" to the original painting.)

Mug, Favorite, Polka-Dot Challenge, Daily Paintworks Challenges, Prized item

                       "Favorite Prized Mug"

     This was a real prized mug to and for me since my husband, George, gave it to me as a gift.  If I correctly remember, both of us saw this and other mugs in a shop in Fairhope, Alabama around December 1994.  I really "oohed-and-aahed" over it as well begging George to buy it for me - which he did.  It was around Autumn in 1995 when I entered in a contest named "Favorite Mug" through WALA, then Channel 10, Television station in Mobile, Alabama.   All I need to do was to send the picture of the mug, myself holding the mug, and write a story about why does this mug hold such a very special meaning to me.  Then, I went ahead with all of the necessary requirements.  One day within a month or so, I received the letter stated that my mug was the winner.  It was hard to tell who was more elated, me or my husband, George.  My prize was a bag of coffee along with the recognition on that same television program on a weekday morning show.  For more pictures on me and this mug, please see this FaceBook reference address below:

Loch-Nessie

"Loch-Nessie" is actually a study of the "Crumpled Paper Challenge" from Daily Paintworks.  This particular "monster" had a model which was a brown paper bag from a sandwich shop, and I tore it into uneven three pieces.  After that, I twisted and formed them into the image close to what I wanted of them.  The main reason why I am finding intriguing about the Lochness Monster is that "she" arches her body both above and beneath the water's surface.  Yes, I did see many programs including "Unsolved Mysteries" on television regarding this particular "beast" and her sightings...

Green Apple In Red Lunch Box

"Green Apple In Red Lunch Box" is from the "Pare Down Apple Challenge" that must be painted with the least amount of paint strokes.  I consider myself blessed to have taken a summer course on tole painting when I was still a teenager in the 1970's.  This type of painting method made it more simpler and enjoyable.
I also started to do "finger-painting" on the red lunch box to make the colors and folds to "pop" out more in this picture.

Remember Trayvon

 "Remember Trayvon" is an unusual Easter Challenge entry for me as well anybody else to enter since this actually a tragedy that happened to a seventeen-year-old male that made national news.   This egg gift contains a bag of Skittles candy, pop candy, stickers for the egg, and not-to-forget a Gospel tract.  You may wonder why a Gospel tract.  Yes, I can tell you why I want to put a Gospel tract in this egg gift is that Jesus came to die on earth for our sins so that we can one day spend with Him in Heaven.  This tract mentions about the Gift called  Salvation which is available for everybody - especially to those who will accept it.  It is a real concern of mine about Trayvon and other youths who gets both shot and killed where they spend Eternity.   Now, this is our responsibility to both live as a good example and tell them about Jesus, and this "Special Gift" called Salvation.

Eeney-Meeney-Miney-Mo

 
Do you remember the times when you said "Eeney-Meeney-Miney-Mo, catch a person by the toe.  If he hollers, let him go.  My mother told me to pick the best one."  Well, one day this past week, I was in a convenience store staring at the doughnuts and other pastries stored in a lit showcase while picking out which one that I wanted the most.  Then again, I both stared and glanced at those doughnuts and trying to decide by saying  "Eeney-Meeney-Miney-Mo".   Needless to say, I did not purchase anyone of them because I told myself that I need anyone of these doughnuts like I do a hole in my head.  Well anyway, I did want to get at least an idea of what I wanted to paint.

Color Of The Year Challenge - 2010

Here is my painting of this challenge called "Color Of The Year - 2012".  The color is called "Tangerine Tango" which is a very popular color that is more like a warm red or scarlet.  There were several ideas that I have wanted to do, but  I chose to do poppies since painting flowers are among my best subjects to paint.

After The Ball (A Mardi Gras-related painting)

Hey Everybody,

Guess what big event around is "around the corner" along the Gulf Coast region?  It's Mardi Gras!  Here is a painting that has the items that depict Mardi Gras especially after one of the balls.  I have already re-posted it on YardSellr tonight.  I did this picture about eighteen years ago when both my husband and I lived in Mobile, Alabama as better known as the "Mother of The Mystics".
